Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are very similar to fillings in that they repair cavities or damaged teeth, but inlays and onlays are made of porcelain and crafted and hardened in a lab to precisely match the color and shape of your prepared tooth. Inlays are used to fill cavities between the cusps and onlays are used to repair larger areas, including the cusps, or tips, of your teeth. Onlays allow dentists to maintain most of a natural tooth, rather than removing healthy tooth enamel to create a full crown. Porcelain is an ideal material for these types of restorations, as it is strong, does not expand or contract and matches the color of your teeth, so they are virtually invisible.
